Husbandry
Bean Weevils
Are you looking for a small feeder bug for your hungry insectivores? We recommend Bean Weevils (Callosobruchus maculatus). This low maintenance, easy to culture species deposits eggs on the surface of beans. A single female can lay up to 200 eggs but 40 is the average productiveness. Larvae borrows into the bean emerging once they have reached maturity in 30 - 45 days. Adult beetles only live 1 - 2 weeks and do not feed. This species enjoys warm temperatures with optimal yield being realized at 27° - 29°C. We use a mixture of mung beans and cow peas to culture this species.
